Regaining control

With the move now just over a month ago, things are slowly getting back to normal. I am settling in to the routine of the new job, I also hope to get a little bit more time to do some overdue maintenance.

According to Kelly, the intruder passed the first hurdle by simply saying he was a new member of staff on the IT helpdesk. It didn't take too long for the intruder to find the server room.

When the intruder got to the server room, he said he was sent by Duncan to service the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).

IT staff sitting by the server room responded with "if Duncan sent you, no problem at all," and let the stranger into their server room.

Security is an field where organizations and technology meet. Neither is more important than the other, and both need equal attention. A firewall is only of limited use when you can just walk into a server room. It sounds so obvious,...

Whoops....

I was just writing a fairly extensive entry for this blog when I "got help". Needless to say, the entire story is gone, and I do not feel like doing it again. So in summary: we are still here, unpacking is progressing and work is good.

Verdonk

Minister Verdonk of Alien Affairs and Integration today publicly scolded a member of parliament for having a dual nationality, and therefor two passports.

According to Verdonk, the member of parliament should set an example by giving up her other nationality.

The current government seems to have lost sight of the Trias Politica. The prime minister and his cabinet must remember that they are "just" an executive force, and that are expected to implement the policy that is set by Parliament. Not the other way around.

Moving house (2),...

Phase one of the move has been mostly completed. The house was empty and clean on Wednesday, we removed the plants that we intend to keep on Thursday and we handed over the keys to the old house last Friday.

We need to register at the new town within five days of that, and than phase one can be finished entirely.

Phase two of the move is progressing. Unpacking boxes and assembling furniture will take at least another week, but progress is being made slowly, but thoroughly.

I am started my new job tomorrow, and I am looking forward to that.

Moving house,...

We are moving to a different house, in a different city. What a pain in the neck, as my father-in-law would say. Although I always knew that we had quite a bit of `stuff' in the house, I never quite fully realized how much it really is.

We're now in the process of boxing up what we want to keep, and getting rid of what can really be gotten rid of. Because our time is fairly limited, we're not doing as much selection as we would like to, and "we will go through the boxes when we unpack".

Doing the whole cleaning-patching-painting thing in the new house once more makes you remember why people generally do not move unless they really have to.

Anyway, those people that need to know will get a notification soon with our new contact info. If we forgot you, please do not be upset and get in touch with us to get our new contact info.
