I am seriously considering to start an informal forum for security people on Long Island to get together regularly and discuss issues that we encounter, and ways that we address them. The goal is to be as open as we can without compromising our companies, and build a level of trust and respect among peer practitioners.
Most of the established security groups, such as ISSA, focus strongly on New York City and its financial services industry, and I believe that having an additional Long Island-centered forum to discuss issues will be beneficial.
If anyone is interested in this, please respond to this message or send me a message. I'd love to talk to you in more detail and see if this is viable.
Sounds like a great idea. Why don't you do something similar to NYSEC or BaySEC. Make it a monthly informal meeting for security folks to gather and chat. Of course if you are looking for something more formal, you could start a LI ISSA chapter as well. I live in Florida but am up in Long Island a lot and was born and raised there. Would try to stop in when i could.
Good Luck!
I've reached out to the NYSEC people, but so far no response. I'm kind of leaning to just dropping in one day to see if anything is going on, but a 2hr commute to find out that there is nobody there is kind of a waste of time. Thanks for the positive response!
Sounds like a great idea to me as well. I'm a Long Islander and would love the opportunity to meet up with other security professionals without having to trek into NYC.
